Boating Industry applauds Andrews State Government record funding for VMSAR Sector

The Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV) has applauded the Andrews State Government’s record $11.3 million investment in Victoria’s Marine Search and Rescue (MSAR) volunteers.

The announcement was made yesterday by The Hon. James Merlino MP, Deputy Premier and Minister for Emergency Services at Victoria’s busiest public boating facility Launching Way, Carrum.

“The Andrews State Government has recognised the vital services provided by Victoria’s Marine Search and Rescue volunteers and delivered an unparalleled level of funding to the sector,” said BIAV President, Mark Crockford.

“The funding will certainly allow MSAR volunteers to effectively respond to marine emergencies, save lives and continue towards providing a leading volunteer search and rescue service.

“I know Victoria’s recreational boating community will rejoice at the announcement and I want to personally thank the Deputy Premier, EMV Commissioner Craig Lapsley and the over 800 volunteers who make up Victoria’s VMSAR flotillas,” Mark Crockford said.

The record funding will be provided over the 2017-2018 and 2018-19 financial years and will go towards a number of areas including replacement of vessels, volunteer training, operational fuel, insurance, protective clothing and equipment.

The Boating Industry Association of Victoria was formed in 1961 and is the peak body for the industry.  The marine industry in Victoria contributes $4.5 billion to the state economy and employs over 17,700 FTE.
